Yep, it is time to accept the fact that business as usual is not the way it used to be…nor will it be for a very long time. So now we all have to learn to get along with a little less money, fewer luxuries, a bit more ambition, learning new things, and new ways to occupy our lives, work, manage our homes, and entertain ourselves.
Instead of wallowing in self pity, learn how to recycle your furniture, accessories, clothing, and food. So what if you cannot afford that overseas vacation?
Here in Las Vegas we are luckier than some, since we can travel around the world without ever leaving the city. And the other day I found a wonderful Armenian restaurant that transported me to another world; full of friendly people, delicious food, live music, and truly affordable prices. So welcome, Readers, to the savory world of
SHISH KABOB HOUSE in the Flamingo Plaza, between Torrey Pines and Rainbow.6620 W. Flamingo RoadLas Vegas, NV 89103702/643-5454
Owned and operated By Eric for around six years, this comfortable, clean, and welcoming eatery has been at its present location for two years. My party dined on appetizers that included dolma and babaganush…both items being foods I had tasted and not cared for in the past. They were delicious! We had seven varieties of shish kabob to choose from; including lamb, beef, chicken, pork, salmon, and shrimp, in different combinations. All came with butter-herbed rice and/or fries, a refreshing salad, and a roasted tomato and jalapeno pepper. The service was perfect, and I thank Krassi for adding to the enjoyment of our meal.
If you have any room for dessert, try the baklava, or another of their offerings, along with a traditional Mediterranean coffee. Three nights a week, on Wednesdays through Fridays, there is live music, which begins at 7 pm.
Shish Kabob House is open seven days a week: Monday through Thursday 10am -10pm, Friday and Saturday 10-am-11pm, and on Sunday from 11am-10pm. In addition to that they also cater and deliver. So take the time to plan on an affordable and delightful evening of good food and music whenever you are in town. I give it five stars!
If you don’t have any ethnic or exotic dining in your home town, look for something at home to replace it! Instead of just a dinner out, turn it into a weekend affair by planning for it in advance and coming home to an extension of it…
Example: Cover a chair in your bedroom with a loose woven throw or a colorful floral remnant, make a few leis and drape them over the bedposts, place bowls of fresh tropical fruit around, and have some island music ready to play. Dress the part, go have your dinner, and come home to your island hideaway…without the expensive, time-wasting travel and aggravation. It is not impossible to reinvent ourselves on a more sensible scale…try it!
